Founded in 1919, the American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest women's patriotic service organization. The American Legion Auxiliary’s mission is to support The American Legion and to honor the sacrifice of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, military, and their families, both at home and abroad. 

For God and country, we advocate for veterans, educate our citizens, mentor youth, and promote patriotism, good citizenship, peace and security.

Eligibility Requirements

Membership in the American Legion Auxiliary shall be limited to the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of members of The American Legion, and to the grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, and direct and adopted female descendants of all men and women who were in the Armed Forces of the United States during any of the following periods and died in the line of duty during such service, or who, having received an Honorable Discharge, died after service: 

A woman who is eligible for American Legion membership is eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary regardless of whether or not she is a member of The American Legion.  However, eligibility of her female relatives (sister, mother, direct descendants) depends upon her membership in The American Legion.
If you have served federal active duty in the United States Armed Forces since December 7, 1941, and have been honorably discharged or are still serving - you are eligible for membership in The American Legion!

*Because eligibility dates remain open, all active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to join The American Legion at this time, until the date of the end of hostilities as determined by the government of the United States.

Scholarships

"American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship"

Students must submit at least a 500 word essay on "What is Patriotism and What It Means to Me".

Criteria to Submit:
  1. ​Graduating as a senior student from Akron Senior High School or home schooled in the Akron Central School District.
  2. Planning on attending college (2 or 4 yr.) or a trade/technical school.
Deadline Date: Check with Akron Senior High School
Location to send to: Akron Senior High School

One $500 scholarship will be presented at Akron Senior High School on the first Thursday of June.

donations

The Post 900 American Legion Auxiliary makes regular donations to the H.O.P.E Center in Batavia for the Women Veterans with PTSD.  Donations are made in May, November, and December.

During the holidays donations are made  to the NYS Veterans Nursing Home, and the Federal Home (including Men with PTSD).  Christmas cards are received by each facility that include something special for all the residents.

Support has extended to our brothers and sisters overseas as well with donating items to go into Care Packages sponsored by varies other organizations that put the Care Packages together.
